LITERACY AND EDUCATION:
THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE DISCIPLINE TO THE TRAINING AND PRACTICE OF LITERACY TEACHERS

This study aims to understand the relevance of the Literacy and Education discipline in the context of the initial training and practice of literacy teachers and seeks to answer the following question: What are the contributions of the Literacy and Education discipline to the training and practice of literacy teachers? Regarding the theoretical and methodological aspects, this is a qualitative research approach, having the responses to a questionnaire applied to a literacy teacher as a corpus using the Google Forms tool. The theoretical reflections developed were based on the concepts of literacy and education, as well as reflections on literacy pedagogical practices. The results point to the relevant contributions that the Literacy and Education discipline had for training the teacher who was the subject of this research. Thus, it is concluded that literacy teachers develop a practice with confidence and affinity with the area when there is initial training with solid foundations, especially when the Literacy and Education discipline is taught considering the perspective of teaching literacy, aiming to train professionals capable of developing their pedagogical practices in a way that allows children to think and reflect on writing since the beginning of learning.
